Perfectly designed and executed productFor the past 5 years my sole vehicle has been an SUV with a trailer hitch. I prefer the ease of a hitch mount to carry my bikes and I have invested a lot of money in a 1Up rack with four bike capability.
When I acquired a 22 GTI a few months back and kept my old Lexus GX, I figured I would just carry my bikes with the latter. However, as I began to really enjoy the vastly superior mileage of the GTI versus the GX, I went looking for a hitch solution for Mk8. When I finally stumbled across this stealth solution from EcoHitch I was a little skeptical because I couldn't find oh much in the way of independent reviews of it, but I decided to roll the dice.
I couldn't be more pleased with the product. It's extremely robust and well made. The instructions were more than sufficient, particularly if you take your time and are at least mildly mechanically inclined. Given the way that the hitch mounts, replacing the bumper assembly, it can handle a substantial tongue weight. Which means no worries about throwing a cargo basket on the back with some heavy stuff or running with four downhill bikes.
I didn't use the flip up license plate bracket that came with the product. Instead I got four quick release bolts off of Amazon* and use them to hold my license plate in place. When I put the hitch on I pull the four quick release nuts and drop the license plate down so it's just hanging off the top mounting holes. This allows me to keep my plate visible and still carry my bikes. As fellow GTI and golf our owners I'm sure can appreciate, we get enough attention from law enforcement, hiding our plate is only going to garner more interest.

2024 VW MK8 Golf R EcohitchBack in January I ordered the Ecohitch from Torklift when it was in pre-production. I was happy that a company put a foot forward and made a hitch for my 24 Golf R. I honestly wouldn't have purchased the car if there wasn't a hitch available for it. The crew at Torklift kept me up to date during the process and delivered an awesome product on time. Shipping was fast and the hitch was packed well. I have had hitches on all of my cars over the years using the competitions hitches. All I can saw is WOW! The quality of the Ecohitch is unbelievable! This thing is a beast. I followed their video instructions and just took my time. I've done several bumper-removal installs so it wasn't that difficult. Cutting a 7x3.5" hole in a new cars bumper is nerve racking but it was easy with a 3-1/2" hole saw. My only complaint which is minor was that I had to buy some extra washers and bolts for the 2 mounting points where the plate bracket attaches to the bumper. Not sure if they are supposed to be included but they do use them in the video. Again, very minor. Overall very happy with the purchase. I highly recommend this hitch to anyone looking to add one to their vehicle.
